Description
A lava heron (Butorides striata sundevalli) hunts for food from the rocky shoreline on Isla Baltra. This Galapagos population is a subspecies of striated heron, and they exhibit a wide variation of coloration patterns. As a solitary species, they primarily occur in mangroves, lagoons, and the marine nearshore zone.
